Bitter Gourd – zone plate still life

this still life with bitter gourd and chilly is a zone plate light painting. A Skink Pinhole Pancake with “medium glow” zone plate was used on a Nikon DSLR camera. A flash light (guide 18) was fired 50 times from half-meter distance to “light-paint” the arrangement.

for this still life with Nigerian Ibeji figures the Olympus Pen E-P1 with Skink Pinhole Pancake and zone sieve “impressionist” was used.

The image is slightly under-exposed to allow the highlights to stand out. Ambient light coming through the window was sufficiently bright and no additional flash light was needed.

An attempt to create a still life zone plate photo in subdued ambient light – no studio setting. The plastic monsters were sitting on a shelf, poorly lit with light from above. The pinhole equipped Leica opened its shutter for about one minute to rapture the scene. Those are the moments where a wire release cable is really useful.
